Welcome Reception - 11 July 2006, from 6:30pm on

The welcome reception will be held in the Salone dei Cinquecento inside Palazzo Vecchio. Palazzo Vecchio is situated in Piazza Signoria, located in the historical centre of Florence (see the map).

The reception will include a short piano concert by Dr. Richard Klemm, featuring pieces by Chopin. After the concert, a cocktail with drinks and food will be offered by the Organizing Committee.

Gala Dinner - 12 July 2006, from 8pm on

The Gala Dinner will be held at Villa Ombrellino, a Renaissance Villa on the hills overlooking Florence and situated in a large park. The aperitif will be served in the garden, giving the opportunity to have a view of Florence during the sunset. A short bus transfer from the conference venue to Villa Ombrellino will be provided.

GUIDED TOURS

Tuesday 11 th July: Siena and San Gimignano – Full day (8.00 AM - 6.30 PM) - Visit of the most important sites in the medieval town, such as the Cathedral or Duomo and the Campo Square, ancient market and political center, where the old horse race, the Palio, is still held.

Lunch in a typical restaurant.

In the afternoon visit of the small town of San Gimignano , one of the best preserved in the world, walking through the tiny unknown streets and ending on top of the hill, at the Fortress, where a whole view of the landscape is possible from the top of a tower situated in the tallest place in the fort.

Price: € 80

 

Wednesday 12 th July: Florence- Half day, on foot (09.00 AM - 12.00 AM) - The tour will include: Santa Maria Novella Square (the basilica and monastery of Santa Maria Novella); the Medieval Religious center (t he Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiori, the Baptistry, and the Bell-tower of Giotto); t he Medieval Political center ( Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, Loggia de' Lanzi); The square of Santa Croce.

Price € 20,  minimum number of participants: 15.

Wednesday 12 th July: Florence,Uffizi Museum- We have reserved 50 tickets to visit The Uffizi Gallery (including Leonardo's exhibition) with a professional guide: the first group at 3.30 PM, the second at 3.45 PM exit time planned at about 6.30 PM.

The price of the visit is € 20,00 per person.

 

Thursday 13 th July: Lucca and Pisa – Full day (8.00 AM - 6.30 PM) - Lucca is a quaint and evocative city retaining the charm of a small and ancient Italian City State . Over the centuries it has managed to hold on to its independence and freedom by adopting a cautious policy. Having miraculously escaped the devastation of war, today it boasts one of the most extraordinary Tuscan art heritage. The imposing tree-lined Renaissance walls which totally enclose it, the maze of medieval streets flanked by towers and smart boutiques, the enchanting Romanesque churches and bright inviting squares captivate the visitor who stands in awe of such unexpected beauty.

In the afternoon tour of Pisa: just a short walk around the ancient Medieval walls among the sound and colours of the multi-ethnic open-air market, then a beckoning arch, just one more step and behold …the miracle unfolds before our eyes. For just a second we stand transfixed and dumbfounded as the breathtaking splendour of the most famous square in the world appears before our eyes.
With a sweeping glance we can take in four of the most incredible marble landmarks that man has ever conceived in the course of history.

The tours by bus will take place only with a minimum number of 20 participants
